Five Steps to Be Happy Every Day As A Parent

Five Steps to Be Happy Every Day as a Parent

Simple Daily Gratitude Practice

Create Your Own Happiness

If anyone were to ever say to you, “Hey — you’re all set on happiness, you’re good, no more needed!” That would be confusing because no one can tap out your limit of happiness except you. The amount of happiness you do or do not experience in life is mostly in your hands. Because it all has to do with your mental mindset.

And, one of the best ways to start strengthening, building, and elevating the happiness in your life is by having a daily gratitude practice. You truly can become a happier person and infuse more positivity into your life and your home just by finding the good around you and making this habit a part of your daily routine.

Happiness really is like a mental workout—it needs to be exercised every day. And when I was creating the Happy Life System, I knew to really lock in that deep, lasting happiness, you’ve got to flex those positivity muscles regularly. That’s exactly why the __Mind Pillar __became such an important piece of this system.

The Mind Pillar: Building a Happy Life

The Mind Pillar hones in on gratitude, joy, and positivity. Think about it this way—when we teach our kids (and remind ourselves) to appreciate the good we have in our lives every day, we’re supercharging our own abundance and happiness.

Because when you prioritize gratitude as a parent and teach your children to practice gratitude daily, you’re setting everyone up with a tool for life. Think about it: when life gets tough (because it will), you will all have this inner strength and resilience to turn to and help you stay strong. This pillar is foundational for developing inner motivation to lead happy parenting and a happy life.

Today, I’m going to guide you through a daily gratitude practice that will enhance your everyday life and strengthen your Mind Pillar. This simple routine, which your children can do with you, takes just a few minutes and can calm your mind, help you feel more present, and increase the joy you experience in your home.

The Magic of Daily Gratitude

I’ve been doing daily gratitude practices for over a decade, and I can tell you firsthand that it’s not only important self care for parents, but it also anchors positivity into your life and your home.

Think about how vibes are contagious. When you feel good, that energy spills over to your children. They learn by example, seeing how you find joy in the little things. And this teaches them that gratitude is a powerful tool for not just happiness but resilience too. Because gratitude strengthens you and helps you see the positive in your life, even during tough times.

And there are so many other benefits from living a life that prioritizes gratitude. A recent article from Berkeley University shared that there are many reasons why gratitude is important and highlighted four ways that it can have a profound effect on your life.

Practicing gratitude:

  • Allows you to celebrate the present moment.
  • Blocks toxic and negative emotions from your life.
  • Makes you more resistant to stress.
  • Gives you a higher sense of self-worth.

These benefits are incredible, right? That’s why my family and I make gratitude a nonnegotiable part of our day. The positive outcomes are simply too amazing to ignore.

My Go-To Gratitude Routine

Here is a five-step gratitude practice that will bring abundance into your life and the lives of your children. It’s one I turn to all the time. Why? Because it also involves nature.

*Mixing nature + gratitude = magic. There is no better combination. *

Here’s my simple daily gratitude practice:

  1. Stop each day to acknowledge something beautiful around you and your children.
  2. Acknowledge the beautiful sky, a tree, flowers, a butterfly—anything around you that inspires you.
  3. Center your focus on the present moment. Discover one thing you can be grateful for in your life.
  4. Expand your awareness to notice things beyond the ordinary. Look for things that bring you joy and uplift your spirit.
  5. Focus on one thing that makes you happy right now.

When you make this a part of your daily routine, you’re wiring your brain to see the good and appreciate the simple joys in our world. And this simple practice truly creates more happiness in your life.
