Self-Care for Parents: 5 Reasons to Detox Your Skin

Feel Like Yourself Again: Why You Should Try a Skin Detox

Struggling to Find Time for Self-Care? Start With Your Skin

I hear it from my parent-friends all the time—finding moments for self-care feels nearly impossible. As moms, dads, caregivers, we all want some alone time so that we can recharge, have a moment or two to breathe, and feel a bit more like ourselves.

One thing I always share is that self-care for parents doesn’t have to be complicated. Sure, we might all be daydreaming about a spa weekend, but getting in a few minutes of intentional time supporting your own needs can happen and feel just as refreshing.

And as summer winds down, why not give your skin some love? It’s one of the ways I take care of myself and give my body some extra attention. Because after a few long days in the sun, some late nights out with my family, traveling, and just life, I know my skin can easily take on a lot when I’m just doing my thing.

A great way to show yourself some care during this time of year is to give yourself a skin detox. Keep reading to learn more about how you’re just steps from feeling refreshed and renewed.

Parents, Refresh Yourselves: The Why and How of Skin Detox

Alright, let’s talk skin detox. First, you might be wondering what a skin detox even really is. That’s a great question!

According to Learn Skin, our skin is our largest organ, and it’s constantly exposed to toxins like pollutants, plastics, and bacteria (yeah, I know, yikes). A skin detox helps our skin manage the toxins that get through the skin barrier. And there are tons of benefits to adding a skin detox to your self-care routine.

The next question you might be thinking is… Soooo, how do I detox my skin? I’ve got you.

A Few Ways You Can Detox Your Skin

  • Dry brushing: Helps your body get rid of toxins through the lymph system.
  • __Epsom salt baths: __Cleans out skin impurities and relaxes muscles.
  • __Charcoal masks: __Removes dirt and oil from pores.
  • __Sauna or steam baths: __Sweats out toxins.

There are a ton of reasons why detoxing your skin is important and will help you feel and look your best. I’ll share a few of the main reasons I love a good skin detox.

5 Benefits of Detoxing Your Skin

  1. Boosts your energy levels
  2. Supports your immune system
  3. Reduces inflammation
  4. Improves mental clarity
  5. Helps manage stress

As a parent, these benefits are a big deal. Because feeling my best means I can be more present in my day to day life and gives me the energy I need to keep up with all the things that life has in store for me and my family. And I also know that looking my best helps boost my confidence and makes me feel empowered. So my parenting advice for you? Make time for this.

Habit Stacking With a Skin Detox

Most of my self-care routines take place right at home. It’s convenient, simple, effective, and means I’m more likely to make them happen often.

And I’m one for habit stacking, so whenever I decide to take time to detox my skin, I add on other habits. What does this look like? It could be lighting a candle and taking some deep breaths before detoxing my skin, and then sitting for five minutes with a cup of tea after. This way, I’m taking just a few small actions and suddenly making it a whole experience—it’s a great parenting hack when you know you just need some you time.

It can be that easy to prioritize your needs and carve out some time for self-care. You deserve it. Sending you so much love!
