Four Habits to Follow Every Morning
Why Mornings Matter More Than You Think
Hey there!
Welcome back! Did you catch the first morning routine blog? It’s a great place to start to learn about the benefits of having a simple morning routine and five steps to transform the way you start your day. So, if you’re craving even more information about creating new habits to begin your day with a fresh start, feel free to check out that post!
As for today? I really want to focus on sharing with you a few simple steps that not only help you anchor your mornings but are also amazing for getting the whole family to start their day in a calm, positive way.
And if you’re rolling your eyes while rolling out of bed, thinking, “I am not a morning person. My kids aren’t morning people. Our home just isn’t made for mornings,” I hear you! But stick with me because I’m here to show you that every family can find morning routines beneficial, and it doesn’t have to be about pre-dawn jogging, waking up an hour early to cook a gourmet breakfast, or starting a new cold shower journey (although, honestly, these things are pretty great and can be a part of your routine if you want them to be).
Today is about simple, effective, small, easy-to-implement habits that make a huge impact on you and your family.
Let’s talk about getting a positive morning routine to feel second nature in your home. Your glass of orange juice is looking half full to me already, don’t you think?
Four Morning Habits That Can Change Everything
Ever hit the snooze button an endless amount of times? Then seem to follow a trajectory all day that feels rushed, disorganized, and chaotic? You’re not alone. A way to move into a happier, more relaxed place in your life is to create a daily morning routine that sets you up in a positive way.
When you establish consistent routines that prioritize giving yourself time to feel centered, calm, and grateful first thing in the morning, you create a foundation of how the rest of your day will go. And self-care for parenting is so important — you’re modeling prioritizing your needs for your kids.
The habits I’m sharing are ones my family and I practice every single day. And when we do, we all notice we are kinder, happier, and feel better for the rest of the day.
Four Steps in My Simple Morning Routine
- Set a Schedule
As a family, we prioritize starting our day with a flexible schedule that respects everyone’s pace. This isn’t micromanaging every minute. In fact, it’s the opposite. My kids are a bit older, so we each focus on creating a flow that allows us all to start the day without stress. This means things like waking up with enough time to each do what’s important to us (like showering, eating a good breakfast, exercising, getting fresh air) without feeling rushed. Everyone is involved with figuring out what they want to get done and the time they need to make that happen. And this is just as important if you have younger kids too. Helping them get into their own rhythm when they’re younger means they’ll be comfortable adjusting and figuring out their own timing as they continue to grow.
- Make Gratitude a Daily Ritual
Each morning, we all take time to say three things we are grateful for about ourselves. It sets such a positive tone and shows my kids the power of self-love. It’s an important practice they can carry with them as they get older. Make this happen in a way that works for your family. You can share your words out loud at breakfast, model saying these affirmations in the mirror, whatever feels right is right for your family.
- Refresh and Reset
We each spend time getting ready every morning like everyone does. But we also take the time to thank our bodies and prepare our minds for the day ahead. I know this is teaching my kids the importance of self-care. And I also get time to boost my own well-being. Since my kids were little, we’ve always said aloud, “Thank you, body, for all that you do for me,” while doing things like brushing our teeth or washing our face. Trust me, it’s such a powerful habit to bring to your mornings.
- Energize with Uplifting Music
Nothing sets the mood like music. In my house, we play something positive and uplifting to set the vibe and get us all moving and smiling. It’s a fun way to energize the morning and an incredible way to reset if the day starts to tilt towards chaos.
Morning Habits for Lasting Happiness
Imagine starting your day feeling grounded and calm, with everyone in the family on the same upbeat page. It’s totally possible, and I’m living proof! In my own family, we are kinder, our mornings are happier, and our home feels more abundant and joyful because we make it a priority to focus on these morning rituals and lean on a routine that supports our well-being.
So why not give it a try? Take these steps and start for yourself tomorrow morning. See how a little schedule tweaking, some gratitude and self-care, and a favorite song can set a positive pace for your day. I bet you’ll notice the difference, and hey, your family might just thank you for it!
My hope is you find a few things to make a morning routine that works best for you and your family. Every morning truly is a new chance to live the life you want to live.
You’ve got this, and I believe in you every step of the way. Keep coming back to the blog for more positive parenting tips!
